Quake for Sven Co-op - Dunkelschwamm

Image
You may already know that Sven Co-op is a Half-Life mod which was made on a modified Quake engine. So Quake is already in Half-Life's digital DNA. This is a port of Quake into Sven Co-op and it fits like a glove. SCMapDB page Author: fgsfdsfgs Date of release: 2020 Maps in package: 12 Map review of Quake for Sven Co-op (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | June 14, 2026 | 3099 characters      Quake for Sven Co-op is what it says on the tin: the first episode of Quake, and a handful of deathmatch maps, for Sven Co-op. There are new scripted enemies, scripted weapons, scripted pick-ups, and all authentic maps and textures and sounds. The enemies have fancy new skeleton-based animations, but otherwise near identical to how they behave in Quake.      What can I even say? It's Quake. It's balls-to-the-wall action with incredible dark fantasy atmosphere and punchy weapons. It has a chunkiness that Half-Life tried very hard t...

It makes sense, goldsrc is just a modified Quake engine and a lot of the file formats Half-Life and Quake use are shared. The real beauty of this conversion is the enemies and weapons, which feel just like the original quake.      We start off our experience in the starting room of Quake, a room with three corridors with our options, exit Quake, start campaign, or start the deathmatch. Going down the exit Quake hallway will changelevel to the singleplayer campaign portal which the o...

Dread - Dunkelschwamm

Run around a Doom Themed complex, fight enemies, and collect weapons. Find the keys to open the path forward. Don't get lost! Allegedly made in a week. SCMapDB page Author: Aurora Date of release: 2014 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Dread (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | May 24, 2026 | 3527 characters      Dread is a classic shooter walkthrough map from the nonstop action to the confusing corridors. Collect keycards, fight enemies crawling out of respawners, and defeat a guest star from another game.      The first thing you'll notice is the wonderful atmosphere. The lighting and level geometry makes for a wonderful brutal set of concrete corridors and occasional skylights letting in rain. It's good that this map makes corridors beautiful, because I spend much of my time lost in them.      The description mentions something about multiple pathways, but a big portion of that is in a convolution of ...

SCMapDB page Author: Aurora Date of release: 2014 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Dread (originally posted on SCMapDB) by GrandmasterJ | May 24, 2026 | 3948 characters      This map feels like a doom multiplayer map given singleplayer features. This map is a conglomeration of hallways with monster spawners and smatterings of weapons off in the corners.      I spent a lot of time lost in this map, the map description says 'multiple paths' and I can attest to that. Ultimately the whole map is finding two keys, unlocking the boss arena, and then killing the boss. Finding the first key was easy enough but then I spent a lot of time walking in circles trying to figure out where to go next. My teammate didn't have this problem so whenever we died I would just follow. But then we died trying t...

Host_Error - Dunkelschwamm

Clearly inspired by the popular backrooms horror trope, players must navigate a shifting maze and run from a chase monster before doing something or other that may or may not beat the map.  SCMapDB page Authors: Grunt Date of release: 2025 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Host_Error (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | April 19, 2026 | 2258 characters      This is a neat little scripting showcase based on the backrooms phenomenon. You and your friends can run around in a backrooms area being chased by a teleporting black gargoyle who sometimes kills you, sometimes is just cheeky. There are some hints about how if you don't run the space will be less hostile, but I didn't find any kind of behavior did much to change how often the black gargoyle would appear and attack.      After meandering around with my buddy until we were both picked off by the monster one-by-one, we tried again with cheats to see if we could f...

Players are dumped into a backrooms flavored maze and a gargoyle hunts the players. We kept wandering around and the gargoyle would appear and gibs one of us and the lights would turn on and off until eventually we get some sort of gibberish message. Then the next time my partner dies randomly she is put in observer mode and that happens to me soon after.      The map is ok I guess, I'm not a fan of mazes and I was suspicious that this map changed layouts, which was confirmed when I noclipped around later and found m...
