Chubby Mess - Dunkelschwamm

Image
Fight tons of chumtoads in this very short map. Watch fun cutscenes where scientists mess up (who could have seen that coming!), fight a bunch of chumtoads, kill a boss, and celebrate victory. SCMapDB page Author: the-middleman Date of release: 2014 Maps in package: 2 (includes another map we didn't play or review) Map review of Chubby Mess (originally posted on SCMapDB) by GrandmasterJ | July 23, 2023 | 1077 characters      Chubby Mess is a real short map that certainly had a vision. There's an opening cutscene that very naturally (if a little drawn-out) explains the situation: science did what science shouldn't, mixing big and many and chumtoads. The result is a chubby mess.      There are three phases to the map: first run from masses of snarks (chubbies) spawning in huge casecading numbers, then run back the way you came to destroy the mother chubby with explosives. The third part comes before both: the aforementioned very long cutscene.      When the map starts,

Campfire - Dunkelschwamm

Image
This is a beautiful map inspired by the famous mod (and map set ported to Sven Co-op) They Hunger. It takes place in a forest filled with derelict buildings, now that I think about it I don't think there is a campfire in this map. SCMapDB page Author: cyberdaemon Date of release: 2003 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Campfire (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | June 19, 2023 | 3387 characters      Campfire is a zombie (and occasionally baby garg) walkthrough map wherein players use limited firearms and mostly crowbars to maneuver through a rural forested area. Explore abandoned houses, rock mines, explosive minefields (??????), and forest while being ambushed by suddenly spawned zombies, headcrabs, gonomes, and baby gargs.      There is a curve to campfire. Early on, players have a handgun with very limited ammo and so spend much of their time crowbarring zombies and, unfortunately, gonomes. In worst case scenarios, you need to crowbar a baby garg. This is espe

Between a Rock and a Hard Place Remake - Dunkelschwamm

Image
A remake of the map by the same name, there are only slight differences between this map and the original. We must defend against waves of enemies both in and out of our base and protect the random dumb scientists who flood the area periodically. SCMapDB page Author: GiGaBiTe Date of release: 2016 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Between a Rock and a Hard Place Remake (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | April 1, 2023 | 2965 characters      Between a Rock and A Hard Place is a pretty good two defense maps for Sven Co-op. This remake is, in our playthrough, almost the same map. However, it did differ in some ways.      There was a turret with a secret button to activate. We never did find that secret button. This feature went entirely overlooked.      There was apparently better flow to the upper hallways and better traffic management in the stairways. I didn't notice this in-game, but believe it. I remember getting caught up on that stuff more in the

Fox's Island - Dunkelschwamm

Image
Relax on white sand texture, take a swim in the ichthyosaur infested waters, explore the bungalows, sacrifice yourself or a friend to the volcano. Fox's Island is a chill hang-out map with some fun features to explore and a very nice view. SCMapDB page Author: The Fox Date of final release: 2021 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Fox's Island (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | June 12, 2022 | 3792 characters      Fox's Island is a chill relax map by The fox. Sit in the hot springs of the island, explore the Maldives-style overwater bungalow huts- some which feature monitors for viewing the resort's stage, and one of which features a working mirror. Ride water slides, jam out to a boombox, or swim over to mysterious rock formations surrounded by dangerous ichthyosaurs.      The brushwork of the island itself is a bit blocky and rigid for a naturalistic structure, failing to convey any of the eroding forces of the ocean, but still is a treat for the ey

Haunted - Dunkelschwamm

Image
Haunted is an interesting concept. The players fight ghosts (normal enemies made transparent and glowy) but it takes place in some mountain facility instead of a location that is more traditionally known for ghosts, like a house or a castle. SCMapDB page Author: Fourth Letter Date of final release: 2003 Maps in package: 2 Map review of Haunted (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | December 5, 2021 | 1362 characters      Haunted was a fun map, simply put. It's a walkthrough map full of enemies to shoot, some of which have an additive effect applied to them to make them appear ghostly (mostly makes them easier to to shoot in the dark).      The environments are brushed out and lit in a very fun way which makes each room very memorable and easy to navigate.      There were some fun little puzzles, one which I particularly liked involved advancing through a corridor full of trigger lasers for turrets as gonomes come bounding in from the opposite end.      The final bi
