Metal Gate Deathmatch DM Map-2 - Dunkelschwamm

Image
This map's long winded and confusing name is brought to you by Counter-Strike: Nexon, a spin-off of Counter-Strike that focuses on players vs. zombies. Weapons, enemies, and level design are all taken from Nexon and combines into something not quite PVP. SCMapDB page Author: Nexon Date of final release: 2017 Maps in package: 2 Map review of Metal Gate Deathmatch DM Map-2 (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | May 14, 2022 | 2428 characters      Metal Gate Deathmatch is a couple deathmatch maps from the Nexon series. They come here with some scripted weapons, nifty new zombie enemies called "minions", a mysterious crystal by the name of "Get Score!!!", and an aesthetic that combines the sci-fi brutalist whimsy of Halo and the techno spacepunk of Unreal Tournament '99. Like most Nexon maps, they look great and come with some spectacular new toys, yet play mostly like watching paint dry unless you have a chaotic blend of players creating the e

This particular map is set up like a MOBA, players spawn in two separate spawn zones (but the map is set to deathmatch so players in the same spawn can kill you) and run down corridors to get to a central arena. In this map there is a large green crystal monster with one million health named Get Score! We spent forever killing it and nothing happened. In the corridors there are some infinitely respawning z

Mazel tov.      Kozmic is a silly little box map with images (some animated, with notable quality and fluidity) from an anime that I am simply not familiar with. I admit, I am not the target audience for this map. I invite anybody who is more familiar with the anime to question my credentials regarding this map. However, I think if these were images of characters I AM familiar with, in similar contexts, I wouldn't regard this map much differently. Again, I invite anybody to question my credentials, as I probably do not relate to the media I enjoy in the same way many f

I'm a fan of sometimes having friendly fire on though. This map is a box with friendly fire on it, there is some art of an anime character I don't know the name of (I would guess Kozmic?), some music, and some respawning crowbars reskinned to look like katanas.      The level design is minimal, the decoration doesn't appeal to me and also the pictures will disappear if you get to close to them, it's weird. Its not inspired and its not a great arena. But after stabbing my teammate to death he respawned and start

Zombie Nights - Dunkelschwamm

Zombie Nights is a very ambitious project. It's a large open area with some buildings scattered around, a janky day and night system, supply drops supplied via parachute, an inventory system, and a never ending zombie swarm. The objective is to last three consecutive days. SCMapDB page Author: The-Middleman Date of final release: 2014 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Zombie Nights (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | January 29, 2022 | 3746 characters      Zombie Nights is a Zombie Survival map chock full of unique gimmicks and production value. Unfortunately, in the end it feels like it's possibly less than the sum of its parts.      The goal of Zombie Nights is to survive 3 nights (36 minutes) without dying as zombies infinitely swarm the map, resources are only obtained through scarce drops, and a hunger and thirst system prevent players from becoming too stationery. Additionally, since the first player to survive 3 nights in row wins the map, there is a

It's an open world full of zombie that players have to survive in and it has pvp. This is a pretty unique thing to attempt in Sven Co-op. I kind of don't know how to start this review, there are so many things to talk about.      Right off the bat the map description page has a bunch of stuff about the map being abandoned, unfinished, and generally not in a state where it is actually playable. I would agree with that assessment. In fact, I think the three day lim

I imagine, as a Counter-Strike map, this would be an incredibly tense experience. As a Sven Co-op deathmatch map it's got some pretty stilted gameplay. Let me explain.      The map is laid out as follows: the plane is the central area of gameplay, split between three floors. There's a cargo bay, a passenger floor, and a first class and cockpit floor. The passenger areas are separated, much like within a real airplane, with curtains which make it hard to see into t

Well I did try some light 1v1 pvp on this map just to test it out. I will say the PVP works, I was messing around and actually damaged my teamma- I mean sworn nemesis and we decided to go for it.      First off, I never played this map in Counter-Strike 1.6 so I don't know how it plays there. But I can say the map is clearly intended to have two sides clash around the plane. Since the map is de I can only assume the terrorists had to bomb the plane. In that context I can see how the m

As a DM map, it seems to have some good killzones, lots of flow between rooms, some big arenas with complicated pathways, but also some weird obvious places to camp and such. I can't say how well it works out though in practice, because we did not have PVP enabled.      The mapping itself ranges from decent brushwork and interesting atmospheres to stubby walls with repeating memes scrawled across them. Really, some of this is pretty nifty looking but most of it looks like whatever the geocities equival

But I did explore top to bottom with a friend.      This map did not age well. Putting aside how I haven't found 4chan funny or clever since I was 14 I just think most of what this map has to offer is boring and lame. I guess I missed my chance to experience this map when I would have identified with its humor the most. There is this secret door marked with that meme caricature of a Jew and it opens up to a room full of nooses and the egon gun, if you go inside the room hurts you. If you're into cringe edgy stuff then I guess thats cool

Hamsters - Dunkelschwamm

Hamsters is a classic map made for Counter-Strike 1.6 by the legendary mapper, Nipper. The whole map is a hamster habitat floating in space. The walls are transparent making enemy movement obvious. It's a really good map for Counter-Strike 1.6. SCMapDB page Author: Nipper Date of final release: 2016 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Hamsters (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | November 28, 2021 | 1120 characters      Hamsters is a classic Nipper Counter-Strike map. This port is faithful in its port of that map and changes nothing, making it little more than a hangout map. While crawling around in tubes does have a McDonald's playplace feel to it and the spinning wheels are very fun, this port has pretty limited options for Sven players.      If you have a hangout server, I think you should probably stick to maps made specifically for hangout servers and maybe leave this one off the rotation. I can't imagine players finding more than 5 minutes of novelty out

That's it.      I guess it would be a good PVP map, but this is Sven CO-OP, I don't think I've ever actually played PVP. Pros: Classic Nipper map from 1.6 Great for PVP Cons: It's ported to Sven but has nothing added for Sven gameplay nobody plays PVP Novelty of being a hamster falls off immediately, without PVP the
