Bunker Fight - Dunkelschwamm

Image
A walkthrough map that is mostly hallways through various rooms. Enemies spawn in big wads right in front of players and we have to chip away at them with revolvers. SCMapDB page Author: Trempler Date of release: 2003 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Bunker Fight (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | June 12, 2023 | 4164 characters      Bunker Fight is a walkthrough action map with one principle: player vs buff npcs in corridor. I wouldn't say the monsters in this map are overpowered to a gross degree (especially with other maps I've played) but I would certainly call them buff. Maybe even "buff AF".      First of all, this map looks pretty nice. You move through corridors painted as various environments, and I didn't really track the narrative of it as we moved, but it catches the usual Black Mesa bunkery affair with some fun lighting at times. The lighting is an issue at other times, but I'll get to that. The environment does cha

Apache 2 - Dunkelschwamm

Image
From the maker of the first Apache comes Apache 2, with not one, but two Apaches! There is also a swarm of soldiers present to make things more difficult. SCMapDB page Author: Wildcat Date of final release: 2004 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Apache 2 (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | April 4, 2022 | 3080 characters      Apache 2 is exactly what it says on the tin: An apache, too; as in, two apaches.      Apache 2 is a small map consisting of a friendly base full of friendly soldiers, ammo caches, and resupplies. Climbing to the roof from a ladder pitches the players immediately against two apaches, but also gives cover in the form of walled structures atop the roof, and a minigun for a good defense in the form a good offense. You can't spend too much time up there, however, unless you have enough people on the ground level making sure Blackops soldiers don't rush the base, kill your soldiers, and make resupplying a ninja nightmare.      That's real

Aerial Contact - Dunkelschwamm

Image
Aerial Contact is a reimagining of the classic map series Apache Battle. Five Apache helicopters will assault the player and all five must be destroyed to win the map. SCMapDB page Author: Hezus Date of final release: 2004 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Aerial Contact (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | February 19, 2022 | 3324 characters      Aerial Contact is a map that takes a strange approach to a simple concept: fight five apaches, one after the other, from a secure complex while grunts and male assassins harass from afar. The assassins and grunts respawn endlessly, while the apaches only respawn enough times for you to fight five before the map rather abruptly ends in fanfareless victory for the players.      One of the main features of the map is two large turrets. One is situated in the fortified complex in which the players spawn- this turret is a big machinegun which turns at a glacial pace. Across from the fortress there is a rocketlauncher turret whic

HS-Desertstorm Zombie Scenario Map-1 - Dunkelschwamm

Image
This is a zombie arena map based on Counter-Strike: Nexon. The arena fills with zombies until a big boss zombie shows up. Killing the boss ends the map. SCMapDB page Author: Nexon Date of final release: 2017 Maps in package: 1 Map review of HS-Desertstorm Zombie Scenario Map-1 (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | February 5, 2022 | 2812 characters      HS Desertstorm Zombie Scenario Map 1 is a very simple map with little ambition and lots of style.      The map's big draw is its abundant use of high quality models from Counter-Strike Nexon: Zombies. Not all of these work as of this review, as many of the world models are errors. The zombies themselves work, though, and I have to say: they're a ton of fun. It's a simple trick, but these zombies come in all sorts of neat varieties and it works great for me.      The weapons also have some neat models. There's a few scripted weapons that also function a bit new. For the most part, they're all just l

Geothermal - Dunkelschwamm

Image
Geothermal is a short mod converted to run in Sven Co-op. The goal is to remove a power core from a geothermal plant, I don't know what kind of geothermal power generator requires a core but here we are. SCMapDB page Original mod authors: ChickenFist Conversion authors: Outerbeast Date of original mod release: 2016 Date of final Sven Map release: 2021 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Geothermal (originally posted on SCMapDB)  by dunkelschwamm | January 8, 2022 | 3949 characters      Geothermal is a walkthrough map which takes players through an underground complex. Aliens attack, "Burned" Grunts are uncovered deep within, and the G-Man is up to no good. What could it all mean?      Most of this map is fairly straight forward: move through obstacles and enemies until you find a switch, then backtrack until you see where a new location opened up. Sometimes this involves climbing ladders, sometimes this involves perilous platforming, most of the times it involves shoo

Zelda OOT Conversion - Dunkelschwamm

Image
Finally, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has come to Sven Co-op! I am amazed at how close this map is to the actual Zelda game. It's definitely very janky, but it's more faithful to the original game than it has any right to be. SCMapDB page Author: w00tguy123 Date of final release: 2012 Maps in package: 2 Map review of Zelda OOT Conversion (originally posted on SCMapDB)  by dunkelschwamm | December 1, 2021 | 5473 characters      The Zelda Ocarina of Time Conversion for Sven Coop is what it says on the tin executed better than I would have ever expected. Do I think it works? Almost! Do I think I'll be playing again? Probably not if I can help it.      The conversion covers the section of Ocarina of Time that would have been on a shareware disc if the game ever had one: the beginning village, and the Deku Tree. As an added bonus, the Lost Woods are around if you want to go get lost in them. The mod covers up to the first boss, Gohma- or at least I've heard, as m
