There are a handful of silly little secrets and a room wherein players can spawn waves of enemies to fight in the main bedroom. The description said these waves happen periodically, but in many dozens of minutes playing we never saw this happen outside of our direct involvement.      The visuals of the map itself are a treat. There's a really cute textured brush for the outside perspective instead of a skybox. There's the obligatory computer running hammer working on the map itself. There's a bed you can run under for cover fro

This rats map has the gravity turned down low and longjump given to players on map start, so it's pretty easy to get around.      We start off in a big room and begin to explore. I guess I am just naturally suicidal because the first place I checked out was the fan cord plugged into an outlet, which will gib players if they get near it. Right next to that is a teleporter to the top of a computer from where we can survey the room. A paper airplane makes loops in mid-air, the long jump really helps in getting on top of that airplane. There is a po

It went more or less like I expected, a wild shifting landscape with all sorts of stuff to see and do. Every room offered something new.      I suppose the 'rage' part of this map is du

ApacheCo - Dunkelschwamm

ApacheCo is a symmetrical map with two sides, a day side and a night side. Each side has its own Apache and the map will end and declare that one side is the winner once one of the Apaches go down. This gimmick would work better if the map had weapons. SCMapDB page Author: Fourth Letter Date of final release: 2004 Maps in package: 1 Map review of ApacheCo (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | April 17, 2022 | 1846 characters      Apacheco is a Sven Co-op map that's as gimmicky as they come. Players enter the arena through one of two portals, choosing a team- night or day. In each, they meet with friendly Barneys and attempt to push through waves of grunts using only pistols with a clip's worth of ammo. If they manage to push through, they get to an arena that is in either night time or day time, and face an apache helicopter with way too much health for how no weapons everybody has. Eventually one of the helicopters is destroyed and the "day" or &quo

The first twist is that the map has two sides to it, a daytime section and a nighttime section. The other twists are that there are no weapons, there are swarms of respawning human grunts, and the outside area has a ton of other enemies running around. It's hard to do much of anything.      When I appeared in the spawn room I first noticed the detail in making the reflective floor (the room copied

Haunted - Dunkelschwamm

Image
Haunted is an interesting concept. The players fight ghosts (normal enemies made transparent and glowy) but it takes place in some mountain facility instead of a location that is more traditionally known for ghosts, like a house or a castle. SCMapDB page Author: Fourth Letter Date of final release: 2003 Maps in package: 2 Map review of Haunted (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | December 5, 2021 | 1362 characters      Haunted was a fun map, simply put. It's a walkthrough map full of enemies to shoot, some of which have an additive effect applied to them to make them appear ghostly (mostly makes them easier to to shoot in the dark).      The environments are brushed out and lit in a very fun way which makes each room very memorable and easy to navigate.      There were some fun little puzzles, one which I particularly liked involved advancing through a corridor full of trigger lasers for turrets as gonomes come bounding in from the opposite end.      The final bi

You respawn with a crowbar in hand so you ahve to change to a shotgun while being tickled by gonomes and zombies. It's a huge pain and not a great start to an otherwise solid map.      There is one puzzle that isn't signposted very well. There is a button on an electrical box that starts a fire. The key here is to push the nearby explosive crate into it and that will destroy the grating on the door above. It took a while to figure that out.
