ApacheCo - Dunkelschwamm

 


    ApacheCo is a symmetrical map with two sides, a day side and a night side. Each side has its own Apache and the map will end and declare that one side is the winner once one of the Apaches go down. This gimmick would work better if the map had weapons.

    Apacheco is a Sven Co-op map that's as gimmicky as they come. Players enter the arena through one of two portals, choosing a team- night or day. In each, they meet with friendly Barneys and attempt to push through waves of grunts using only pistols with a clip's worth of ammo. If they manage to push through, they get to an arena that is in either night time or day time, and face an apache helicopter with way too much health for how no weapons everybody has. Eventually one of the helicopters is destroyed and the "day" or "night" team wins and the map ends. It's an interesting concept, to decd

    Apacheco has some decent brushwork, and repeatedly tries to do a fun mirror using a faux reflection room, but each time the reflection illusion is broken by the lack of NPC or player reflections. Other than that, Apacheco does little to evoke a new or interesting environment, instead trying to dazzle with the one reflection trick and a trick that makes it seem there may be two skyboxes in a single level. None of it does as much to impress nowadays, but it's fun.

    With only default weapons to take on the apaches (aside from a sniper rifle, some useless explosives, and a hidden minigun, it's hard for me to say much about this map other than that it's kinda unplayable. Maybe it's meant to have a cfg file that injects ay more weapons when the player spawns, but that was not present.

    Overall, I don't recommend Apacheco.

Pros:

  • I think the democratic election where votes are damage dealt to apaches is fun

Cons:

  • You just simply don't have the weapons to engage with this map in any meaningful way

Zombie Squad - Dunkelschwamm

       Suit up squad, it's time to go fight human grunts that this map calls zombies. This map is a horde map taking place in a burned out urban block, supposedly there are points to capture but I didn't see any.        Inspired by 'I am Legend' players fight the eponymous Dark Seekers in an abandoned city. Solve puzzles, find a way to escape, and beware the large amounts of high health enemies!
