G-man - Dunkelschwamm

Image
The map description really says it all: "Nobody knows what this map is about, or why it is called g-man". It's a strange, early map made by an unknown author that found its way onto the map database and now it's getting reviewed. SCMapDB page Author: Unknown Date of release: 2000 Maps in package: 1 Map review of G-man (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | July 27, 2023 | 1869 characters      G-Man is a map that exists without much purpose other than entropy. One of those maps that doesn't really end- it just becomes empty except for the players which dance ineffectively on its corpse.      The visuals are that of a desert valley perfectly contoured to lead players through a linear combat path: first flanked on either sides on the opposite end of a tunnel by HECU grunts; then in a dark tunnel by fassns; then outside, by turrets and even MORE fassns. The natural landscape is only minorly marred by its clunky turn-of-the-millennium compiler. Its gr

Build Puzzle - Dunkelschwamm

The map title is a misnomer, there is nothing to build and the puzzles are all platforming challenges. There are 12 challenges in total and all are easily accessible from the spawn room. What does the Sven Co-op community consider a puzzle map? I mean really, it seems whenever a map is considered a "puzzle" map it just means any map where you spend one minute not stubbing your toe on a monster entity. This map includes platforming, gimmicking platforming, trivia, invisible mazes, hidden progression switches, and tests of coordination skill. There's a few problem-solving bits, but overall I feel the majority of this map relies on extreme displays of goldsrc movement mastery over any puzzle-solving skills.      So, sc_tl_build_puzzle_fft_final isn

Between Two Worlds - Dunkelschwamm

Between Two Worlds is a Half-Life 1 mod that, as best I can tell, was released in 1999. What we have on the Sven Co-op map database is the first three levels just dropped right into the map folder with zero work done on converting it to actually work. It's playable at the very least. SCMapDB page Author:Andreas Bauer Date of release:1999 Maps in package: 3 Map review of Between Two Worlds (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | February 16, 2023 | 5175 characters      Between Two Worlds is a Half-Life modification by Andreas "Widowmaker" Bauer. You can learn more about it here: https://www.runthinkshootlive.com/posts/between-two-worlds/      Hosted here on Sven Co-op Map Database is the first three maps of this 9 map mod. It's odd that the rest of the maps aren't included, as my buddy and I threw the last 6 maps into Sven Co-op and they worked about as well as these maps do- which is to say they're abrupt, poorly optimized for co-op pl

BBC World Service - Dunkelschwamm

One can be forgiven for reading the title of the map and thinking they are in immediate danger of learning something. I can assure you this map has only the barest connection to things newsworthy in 2017. SCMapDB page Author: Keen Date of final release: 2017 Maps in package: 1 Map review of BBC World Service (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | November 19, 2022 | 2998 characters      BBC World Service is a political commentary map by shitpost extraordinaire Keen, with a fitting contribution from regretful, and some of w00tguy123's work utilized in a way that is awfully familiar.      This map came out in 2017, and I can't claim to have a great memory of international politics 5 years ago, and my attention was probably elsewhere anyway. So, I can't make much of an evaluation of the commentary provided. The map features big tanks, three consoles which spew random segments from BBC new coverage, friendly NPCs coded as Yemen refugees, something about swim
