Central Bunker Remake - Dunkelschwamm

Image
This is, of course, a remake of another map by the same name. While it does offer many improvements over the original it also has an unfortunate area that we had to cheat past. SCMapDB page Author: GiGaBiTe Date of release: 2016 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Central Bunker Remake (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | October 9, 2023 | 4758 characters      Central Bunker: Remake is a ground-up remake of Central Bunker, which we have previously reviewed. How does this hold up?      This plays almost exactly like I remember Central Bunker playing, but without the lag. The short narrative of gameplay is: you start outside, with far too few weapons and ammo fight your way through a lobby full of Barnabus/Ottos and ceiling turrets, grab some new weapons, go down an obnoxious elevator, fight a great battle with aliens and grunts beside an electrified pool of water, work your way through many more grunts until you find a big railway bunker full of shock troopers and pit d

Case Closed - Dunkelschwamm

Case Closed is one of the many singleplayer Half-Life mods ported over to Sven Co-op. We go around and see all the familiar sights around Black Mesa, especially the sewers, and eventually we are able to get out. Play a singleplayer walkthrough which journeys players through funky testing labs, maintenance rooms, sewers, funky testing labs, maintenance rooms, and sewers!      Most of what is on display is standard Half-Life action stuff, but it plays decently well in Sven Co-op. I'd say I think some maps could stand to be stitched together for the sake of this, as they often end right after grabbing some HEV or equipment. This leads to some

Castlevania - Dunkelschwamm

What is a man? A miserable little pile of secrets. But enough talk… Have at you! Explore Dracula's castle, which in this case means a smattering of respawning enemies and long walks through them. SCMapDB page Author: Gadabout Date of release: 2016 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Castlevania (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | July 2, 2023 | 4169 characters      Castlevania is a non-linear walkthrough action map for Sven Co-op which aims to recreate the feeling of a Castlevania game. The map is divided up into 6 sections: The introduction area, the hub, the underground, the chapel, the clock tower, and Dracula's arena. Aside from the hub and final arena, each section comprises of a collection of challenges and a boss.      These challenges take two primary flavors: platforming puzzles, and combat. Platforming puzzles in this map range from fair to tedious. Much of it revolves around barnacle grappling, which also means if one player reaches the end of a par

2bases - Dunkelschwamm

Image
This map is exactly what it describes, two bases in a large arena with human grunts infinitely spawning in. The name starts with '2' which places it quite high in the alphabetical listing of maps.  SCMapDB page Author: Sharpe Date of final release: 1999 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Halloween Construction (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | November 28, 2021 | 2034 characters      2bases is a fun way to race up the scoreboards with friends. Without a lack of pressure to stay alive, and with a metric ton of military ordinance to go to town on respawning grunts, it's hard to find much to complain about.      When a friend and I first hopped on this map, we were initially swept under the tide of respawning grunts. It was difficult to first get our footing and realize the wealth of resources around us, but upon familiarizing ourselves further with the layout of the map we quickly began dismantling the foothold the grunts had built and began dominating th

Halloween Construction - Dunkelschwamm

This map has Halloween in the name, but unlike other Halloween map it isn't obvious. The map sure is dark and spooky but the author has made other maps that are more Halloweeny. There are some segments early on in particular where the players face multiple gonomes in a pitch-black underground tunnel, each charging down the tunnel at a retreating player as their flashlight bounces fro
