Arcade - Dunkelschwamm

Arcade feels more like an experiment than a full fledged map, but it recreates classic arcade games in Sven very well. There is also a jumping puzzle for those who get tired of the arcade machines. Play Tron Cycles, Pac-Man, Pong (1p or 2p), Snake, or a lolfunny TF2 meme. These machines sit in a very plain, paneled environment without much else to look at. But, what else do you need? You walk up, press a button, and then use your player input controls to play arcade classics. It's free old games in your free Sven Co-op. What's not to like?      If I had to have any complaint, it would be that when a player starts a game, they are locked in until the game they've initiated ends. This is particularly troublesome wi

The arcade machines include two player tron, pac-man, one or two player pong, and snake. The fact that all of the arcade machines work near perfectly is just amazing. They even have scoreboards that will announce the high score for that machine. The map also has some nice music to go along with the arcade atmosphere. The level is small and half empty, but the arcade machines are the main attraction and they are impressive.      The map description says that some of his arcade machines are in some of Keen's maps, I actually experienced these m

Escalator Up - Dunkelschwamm

Escalator up is a map focused around an escalator going up. There is an elevator at the end that takes players up to an assassin ambush. That's about it. SCMapDB page Author: Robootto Date of final release: 2004 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Escalator Up (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | December 30, 2021 | 1405 characters      You truly can never say, when it comes to Robootto, what kind of nonsense you'll get up to in his maps.      This map is an escalator that's… oddly made, but at the very least interesting to look at. There's no escalator down, so the player gets to ride up, open a door, and find that the map is ready to throw a curveball.      See, the map gives you a shotgun at spawn. "Why would I need a shotgun," you may ask aloud to nobody in particular, "in a map that is simply an escalator?"      Well, young reader, the answer is simple: the escalator leads to grave danger!      And by grave danger, I mean a hand

That was a lot more than I expected. After the escalator is a long elevator trip to an ambush by assassins. There is a nonfunctional button to a map that doesn't exist and that is it.      Nice experiment, not very fun to play. Pros: The map delivered on an escalator Cons: The one section of combat was no fun the elevator ride and waiting for the elevator accounts for most playtime Score: 1 / 10

Rainforest - Dunkelschwamm

Rainforest is no more than a couple of hallways made to look like a rainforest. There isn't much happening in the map. SCMapDB page Author: Robootto Date of final release: 2003 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Rainforest (originally posted on SCMapDB)  by dunkelschwamm | December 11, 2021 | 1136 characters      This is an intriguing Robooto map, I think. Its brushwork is incredibly creative, trying all sorts of different things to evoke a rainforest aesthetic. Some of these attempts are more successful than others, and the utter density of these different approaches creates a fairly inconsistent atmosphere.      The map itself appears to be nothing more than a brief facade for testing out these brushwork prototypes for a rainforest environment. Playability-wise, I don't think it's really all that worth checking out for players so I don't recommend playing or putting on a server. If you're a mapper you might be interested in seeing what things Robooto attempts

It has no point, no real end game, and no goal. The environment design is pretty nice. If the textures were aligned properly then it would even be good environment design. In the screenshots there is a picture where there is a glowing rectangle on the ground. When I saw that in-game I assumed something had broken in an update to Sven, but now I see that was intentional and showcased. It's not good environment design to have sections of the floor glow in a rainforest.      Overall, unless you are looking for environmental inspiration or tricks to help in your own mapping this map is worthless, pointless, and boring. Pros: Almost
