Break GO: Game Over - Dunkelschwamm

Image
Inspired by the very similar Breakfree 1 and 2, in this map players ride an elevator up through some deadly obstacles. Elevators in Sven Co-op are prone to killing players so only the luckiest folks will make it to the end. SCMapDB page Author: Zorak Date of release: 2009 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Break GO: Game Over (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | April 29, 2023 | 2424 characters      Break-Go: Game Over is a map inspired by Breakfree. I would characterize it almost like a fanmap, for how much of Breakfree's gimmick it apes. There's nothing wrong with that, of course, but it does feel pertinent to point out as it very succinctly characterizes this map.      Much like Breakfree, Break-Go features a floating loser pool which players respawn in and which moves parallel to the main gameplay elevator. The elevator houses the players, goes up, and stops at the top where players can kill a scientist and flip a switch to end the map. The sci

Ambush - Dunkelschwamm

In this map player's get attacked right away by a wave of enemies, I guess players get ambushed. There are a lot of "bad" Sven Co-op maps which fail on basic technical concepts, but what intrigues me about Ambush is that every rookie mistake features a kind of jerry-rigged compensation- the problem is never "solved", it's only rendered inert by a workaround.      Here's an example: The players spawn in a truck in a tunnel. The truck takes up a lot of the tunnel, but overall both are pretty cramped- the tunnel's size not helped by having a truck wedged in it. The player's weapons are all supplied as items around the truck. Now, any sane person might think that

Sv Mountain - Dunkelschwamm

Sv Mountain is the first map made by the author, it combines platforming with some combat. Players must scale the outside of a mountain and clear some rooms inside the mountain. SCMapDB page Author: SV BOY Date of final release: 2017 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Sv Mountain (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | February 18, 2022 | 5605 characters      Mountain is a platforming-centric map wherein players climb a mountain, navigate tiny cliff edges, move through vent hell, and fight in a xen arena. Some of it is somewhat effective and charming in a beginner's fashion (this is, apparently, the first map by its author, SV BOY) though most of it is the kind of "challenging" that reminds me a bit of troll games of the '00s and the '10s. This isn't an attitude that is novel in Sven maps, as troll-ish nature is prevalent especially in platforming maps, it's just something to be aware of.      The player ascends a very block-shaped mountain v
