Central Bunker Remake - GrandmasterJ

This is, of course, a remake of another map by the same name. While it does offer many improvements over the original it also has an unfortunate area that we had to cheat past.

Map review of Central Bunker Remake

The remake of the original Central Bunker does indeed offer much improved optimization and visuals. The map looks great. I didn't see a whole lot of difference in the gameplay, but I did see a much better offering of supplies. I liked the original but rated it a 5 mostly because I thought this one would make it obsolete. But unfortunately there was a section in this map where we had to get past a fan that would inevitably pull us in and turn us to paste. My teammate even looked up a review where the player eventually noclipped past that point, something we had to resort to as well.

I will say that the map also has a lot more supplies and HEV chargers scattered around. I remember never finding a shotgun in the original map but I definitely got one in this one. There were also some areas with piles of ammo, but some weapons, like the sniper, are very out of the way.

Try the original map, I had a lot of fun with that despite the lag and there wasn't an impossible obstacle in the way. The remake is a great map otherwise but I can't recommend something that is broken.

Pros:

  • Map looks great
  • plenty of supplies
  • lots of shortcuts
  • lots of armor
  • good map optimization

Cons:

  • a vent that renders the map unwinnable
  • supplies are a bit spread out, later in the map it becomes a chore collecting them all

Score: 4.5 / 10

  1. This is GiGaBiTe, the mapper.

The fan obstacle is not unwinnable, it requires teamwork, which you seem to have not been able to figure out.

One player must repeatedly use the breaker panel in the vent to keep the vent fan disabled long enough for another player to get past it. Once the other player is out of the vent, they must use the breaker lever above the vent exit to permanently disable the fan.

Or you can use the button on the overhead door to open the door and bypass the vent entirely.

Do you really think that I'd release six major revisions of the map and leave a broken unpassable obstacle in it?

    1. Hello and thank you for your comment. It is so fulfilling when I get feedback, positive or negative. I know my partner in crime left a reply to your feedback so I felt compelled to offer my view as well.

Art needs to stand on its own, you won't be able to talk to everybody who plays your map. I researched how to beat it and I found other people using cheats to get around it so that is how I did it too. Even you acknowledge in your reply to Dunkel that it seems people have trouble with this mechanic. I would have loved to bypass that vent and I feel like we definitely looked around for alternate routes, though I do admit it has been quite some time since I wrote this review.

As for if I'd believe the map to be broken after six revisions, yeah absolutely. I've played a couple maps and some of them come broken. I myself strive to be a better reviewer and the tactic I've settled on is to give my play by play impressions of that map. The impression I had with your map, plus a bit of background in how Sven maps are in general, was that it was broken in some way.
