When the map starts my teammate and I are in a room with a button that when pressed starts the map. We're dropped into a hallway that accelerates us towards the classic big red springs which bounce us straight up into the ceiling where we bounce back into the acceleration hallway. When we free ourselves we end up in a room with a big water feature and beyond are the entrances to the six different challenges. These springs aren't always janky, but the majority of the map relies on precision jumping and these big springs.
The challenges open up one at a time and within each course is a hidden chaos emerald. Collecting all of them opens up a new doorway to the 'mini game' which is essentially an extra hard pure jumping course. It reminds me of a kz map.
The challenges themselves are loosely based on Sonic levels, Green Hill Zone definitely came through on the first course and the last course is also something I recognize. Each level has some new twist to the jumping, be it using the red springs or dealing with ice in the snowy mountain course. There was this one that had a slippery tightrope and the author of the map put a push brush right at the start to throw off players! The last map had these pistons that would instantly crush any players. We tried to go around it, jump over it, go slowly, go fast, we always got pasted. We also had to jump through the entire level to get back to the pistons. Honestly, we cheated there, we have no clue how to get past the pistons.
Completing all the levels unlocks the boss battle. Which is a picture of Eggman piloting a robot with a big crystal. We collect crystals by hitting them so thats what we thought we had to do at first. Then the battlefield started to change, parts rose up out of the lava, into the lava, crazy stuff.
I think this is a pretty good map. It had a lot of variety for the challenges, the jumping did get very repetitive but I think the only problem was the ultra hard mini game. It was really janky at times and we had to keep jumping through the puzzles to retry. It took us a long time to play this map.
Pros:
- Lots of variety in the jumping challenges
- lots of fun stuff to unlock
- I really liked the last boss fight
Cons:
- the map is janky, especially the first red springs
- the instant kill piston stopped us dead in our tracks
- the map can be inconvenient when retrying challenges
Score: 7.5 / 10
