Horror 1 - GrandmasterJ

The map page has a story written out for us, plus a promise to deliver more maps in the same story at a later time. But it's been over two decades and this is all we have, a very short map.

Map review of Horror 1

This is a very short and cute map, It's over 25 years old at the time of writing this. It's endearing in its presentation but there really just isn't a whole lot here.

Players start off at the bottom of a road so slanted I see no possible way any car can drive up it. We go through a hallway, take a few turns, pick up a key on a stack of boxes, and find a fork in the road near a cemetery. Going right take sus back to spawn, unlocking a shortcut with a fun explosive plunger. Going left leads to a locked gate we use the key to open and the map ends. There are some zombies and headcrabs along the way and the zombies respawn in the cemetery. Some zombies are translucent which suggests there are ghosts of zombies.

That's really all there is to it. Players start with good weapons, including the crossbow which is always fun. The map itself is very blocky with things modeled out rather roughly. There are really nice textures though that keep it from looking too bad. The map had two defining features, a key to open the ending gate and an explosive plunger. It was over in two minutes.

Pros:

  • The map had nice textures that made the blocky architecture look good
  • there was an explosive shortcut to spawn I really liked
  • I liked the inclusion of the crossbow so I could blow headcrabs apart

Cons:

  • not a lot going on in this map
  • with how fast and easy this map is I question why a shortcut to spawn was needed
  • it could have looked better

Score: 4.5 / 10
