    So here I am browsing random maps when I see a map that looks kind of interesting. It's got a thumbnail with some historical art and we get a blurb about Albanians defending against Ottomans in a historical recreation, seems cool. But uh, the other screenshots looks like we're burning roaches with flamethrowers… . I install the map and the .wad is called turkroaches, uh ooh.

    Then we start the map and the roaches are called turkroaches straight up in the map itself. I feel the need to say that I do not condone racism in any form and this map definitely felt off because of it.

    The actual map gameplay itself was a somewhat boring defense mission. Massive waves of small roaches walk towards a point and if they get to that point will bring the health points of a gate down. You lose if the gate is destroyed and we actually get a really cool game over sequence, which kind of sucks because that means I have something good to say about a racist map. Well I guess the flamethrower is pretty cool too.

    We lost the first round because there are a lot of roaches and they can be hard to see and hard to hit, even with the flamethrower. My teammate kept running out of ammo, on our second try I dropped a bunch of ammo for her and stayed in back. One in front to burn the bulk and one in back to get the stragglers. We beat it with 19 health left.

    That's about it, the map seems to hold a 570 year old grudge against an ethnic group and does that competently enough. But there are many many other defense maps, some with enemies that actually fight back!

Pros:

  • Nice flamethrower
  • very nice game over sequence

Cons:

  • Its really racist
  • boring combat
  • the racism is pretty hard to get over
  • difficult, but not really in a good way
  • I don't think the world needs more racism

   I'm a big fan of Sven Co-op, so much so that I was only half joking when I presented the terrible idea of playing and reviewing every map to my partner in crime, Dunkelschwamm. Much to my surprise she agreed and now here we are, 371 maps in to the 1558 maps currently on the Sven Co-op map database . It was done primarily to get people to stop leaving reviews in the comments and to actually put them in the review section. Let me just check the reviews on the map database. . . . yeah, I think it sort of worked. Then we got nervous that wikidot might die and take the site with it so I created this blog as a mirror.      Dunkel was unemployed at the time and my fiancé still had tons of patience for me so it went swimmingly, I think we averaged something like 15 reviews a week. Mostwanted - Dunkelschwamm

       After Gordon Freeman finishes up his work at Black Mesa he goes home to his rental. His neighborhood is quite terrible and mobs of police, alien, and criminal wake him up.        This is, of course, a remake of another map by the same name. While it does offer many improvements over the original it also has an unfortunate area that we had to cheat past.
