Terminator Run - Dunkelschwamm

Three almost identical lanes with obstacle courses. Run like the Terminator! Then longjump back and do it again, the map has no end. SCMapDB page Author: Robootto Date of release: 2004 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Terminator Run (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | January 14, 2023 | 3033 characters      Terminator Run is an obstacle course map for Sven Co-op by robootto.      Robootto's pretty infamous for maps that don't really see their concept through, but I think Terminator Run is an example of a Robootto map that makes a lot of sense to me- it's a simple 3-person obstacle course with 3 (nearly) identical courses side-by-side, each a different color. Parallel to these courses are windowed corridors which spectators can traverse with ease.      When the map begins, players use a glass door which slowly lowers. It lowers so slowly that players with more experience with the engine will know exactly when to crouch-jump to get a head-start. This set

There is a blue, red, and green route but they are all the same, except for blue becuase it does not have a shotgun at the end and the other two do for some reason.      The obstacle course itself is fairly simple, with bars blocking the way that must be jumped over or crawled under, some other simple platforming challenges, and the one I really failed at which was the ceiling ladder. At the end is a big drop into the last stretch to the finish line. As I mentioned before, red and green get shotguns and longjump here but blue does

Beach Experience - Dunkelschwamm

Hot sand, cool waves, a Mai Tai and/or Piña Colada, these are things that would complete a fun experience at the beach. This map is loosely themed on the Normandy beach landings of World War II and for some reason feature lots of closed off hallways. SCMapDB page Author: MysticMDT Date of release: 2004 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Beach Experience (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | January 14, 2023 | 4889 characters      Beach Experience is a map with a lot of bunkers and trenches, but only one beach. Storm a beach, steal war documents, and explode turrets! Is it any good?      The map is broken into a few recurring elements: combat with HECU helmed by an heavy weapons grunt, taking down over-HPed grunts standing beside mounted machineguns they are ostensibly firing, combatting giant "anti-air" (and yet unable to aim up or down) turrets, and stealing war documents. To approach this, the players are equipped with weapons according to one of four

It had a beach in the first section but the rest was some winding mineshaft style hallways and a couple of bunkers.      Players are dropped off into a room with some class selection doorways around. We have Sniper, Medic, Soldier, Demoman. All players start with 5 grenades and a crowbar, the medic and demoman get the uzi and shotgun for weapons while the sniper gets a crossbow and the soldier gets an M16, mp5, and rocket launcher

SCMapDB page Author: mrfranswa Date of final release: 2004 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Resident Evil 2 Mini Game (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | October 16, 2022 | 5354 characters      Resident Evil 2 Mini Game is a zombie sandbox map which endlessly drops zombies and some other random foes on you, mostly in the theme of Resident Evil. The setting is a city block beside a farmhouse parked in a small patch of forest.      Most of the map takes place on a city block beside a patch of forest, connected two tunnels, creating a big ring. The city block area includes a garage, a park, a sandbag-fortified position with a friendly soldier, and some buildings which can be variously levels of entered. Boosting atop one building grants a crowbar (key item, not weapon) which opens a door to an NPC who swe

I'm doing my best to like them I really am. Unlike the others, this map is not a linear walkthrough map but instead a never ending horde map with some fun objectives scattered around the map. It's probably my favorite Resident Evil themed Sven Co-op map so far.      Players spawn in a tiny room with a lady named "Kill me to end the map", a nearby hole drops players into a three way choice of spawn points around the main map. There is also the wrench here which is reskinned to be a chainsaw, that's fun

It features limited ammo, lots of monsters, some unique puzzles, and backtracking like nobody's business.      Before I begin, I do want to mention: when I played this for this review, some crucial puzzle elements did not spawn. The map was unbeatable without cheats. In particular, the golden emblem did not appear. As such, right out the gate, I cannot recommend this map for a s

I really do. This one started off real strong, it looks beautiful. The lobby of the mansion is huge, well lit, and has some really nice marble textures. It has the same scavenger hunt gameplay that's to be expected from survival horror but just so much more. Multiple times we had to traverse the entire level, once we had to go from the lowest depths underwater in the sewers to the top floor of the mansion and then back just to grab a valve. I hope you like ho

Barnacle Flight 2 - Dunkelschwamm

This is a sequel to a map that doesn't exist, the other Barnacle Flight map was made after this one and is unrelated even though it is the same concept. It's hard to do with a few players, and can't speak much to how well the glitch works with a bunch of players. But, I'm not really here to review the glitch, I'm here to review the map itself.      The map is a huge rectangular prism where players can fall a great distance to the bottom, without fall damage, then take a central teleporter back to where we spawn- the top of a fly

Then you crawl into the next area where you fight a room full of soldiers and another room with soldiers and aliens and then an outdoor area full of soldiers and then the map is over. This map has your standard Black Mesa fare, with lots of underground hallways, crates, plenty of vents, and some desert outdoor areas. The map is fairly short, but the enemies have tons of health and there is not much ammo around, it is definitely geared for more players on a server.      Players start off in a tunnel with a crate. The crate breaks as players walk by and a headcrab feebly attacks. You're going to want to go inside this crate because it has the revolver in it. Right after that is a locked door, a b

For much of the map you are pitted against soldiers, though at times it throws in aliens where convenient. Players subvert these enemies by shooting them with the lots of guns the map gives them. Players can dominate simple corridor-style open battlefields with convenient concrete walls with ease. Tanks are no match for players as they chuck grenades and counter-strike the tanks' supporting black ops snipers. Even shock troopers, dropped from the air as though conjured by the very spirit o

Doctor Eggman from Sonic infamy appears in a big brush-based boss battle. It reminds me a bit of the final boss of Commander Keen 3- just a big simple set of moving level objects and weak spots.      The battle works like this: the machine alternates firing lasers from its laser canons, spinning giant blades, and occasionally raising lava from a grate in the ground. My comrade and I were initially misled- in the center of the tower Eggman stands initially in a glass control room before teleporting away. Since this is the control ro

As the map description says, the rocket unfortunately does not fly high enough to get into the flower room.      This entire map is very blocky, the lava room where the player starts makes no sense, the rocket is pretty ugly looking but hats off to robootto for making an evocative enough concave elevator rocket bru
