Arma-Egg-On - Dunkelschwamm
"I've got you now Sonic!" Then the big grinder turns on, blades spin, lasers emit, and lava boils up from the floor. This is a one-room map that ends when players defeat Eggman's machine.

Arma-Egg-On is an experimental boss battle map for Sven Co-op. Doctor Eggman from Sonic infamy appears in a big brush-based boss battle. It reminds me a bit of the final boss of Commander Keen 3- just a big simple set of moving level objects and weak spots.
The battle works like this: the machine alternates firing lasers from its laser canons, spinning giant blades, and occasionally raising lava from a grate in the ground. My comrade and I were initially misled- in the center of the tower Eggman stands initially in a glass control room before teleporting away. Since this is the control room, and it is glass, we thought this was the target. After bashing away on the glass for minutes and dodging attacks, we started wondering if this map was beatable. On a whim, I attacked the laser canons, found they were glass (despite using a painted metal texture) and we found our first weak spot. The player must perform attacks using their crowbars, as there are no other weapons. Once the laser canons are all blown off, a central computer core is revealed. Destroying this ends the map, but doing so is difficult to accomplish before the lava has raised at least once.
I think this is a pretty fun map with decent enough aesthetic, a good Eggman cameo, a simple premise, and a few glaring issues. First of all, respawning in this map is a nightmare- the entire playable space just about is full of spinning blades, lasers, and raising and lowering lava. Spawning directly in death was common. Second of all, there's a ton of places where players can cheese avoiding damage- at one point I successfully jammed one of the blade rotors with my own body (my comrade touched it briefly and I was immediately "crushed to death" as a result).
Overall, if you're looking for some quick fun action maps to add to your rotation, or you're looking for a quick fun one to play with a friend, I think Arma-Egg-On is just fine.
Pros:
- Looks fine
- Really simple but effective boss attack pattern
- I like the idea of tearing down a big robot or contraption piece by piece with the crowbar
Cons:
- Respawn pains
- Misleading glass cockpit
- Small alcoves where players are virtually invulnerable
- Over pretty quickly once you know what to do
Score: 7.3 / 10
