Multifield Scyberscazer - Dunkelschwamm

Image
The picture for this map looks awesome. It is apparently the sequel to another map, I've played that map and it feels like a beta of this map. I don't know what the title has to do with the things in the map. SCMapDB page Author: Robootto Date of final release: 2007 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Multifield Scyberscazer (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | December 29, 2021 | 3984 characters      Seeing that a map was made by Robooto gives you the warm, friendly feeling that one gets when fondly recollecting the stovetop burner which scarred your hand as a child.      Multifield Scyberscrazer is an almost playable thing full of nonsense and whimsy, but mostly nonsense. Travel through loosely connected obstacle courses of bullet sponge enemies and confusing progression. The map begins with four tall staircases which are utter bullshit, but thankfully a nearby teleporter allows the player to bypass this needlessly bullshit part of the map.      Unlike most maps

4chan /pol/ Gasworks (PVP w/ NPCs) - Dunkelschwamm

Image
This is a PVP map with a 4chan theme filled with memes. With how fast internet culture moves nowadays this map seems like something that would get old the moment it comes out. SCMapDB page Author: Keen Date of final release: 2017 Maps in package: 1 Map review of 4chan /pol/ Gasworks (PVP w/ NPCs) (originally posted on SCMapDB)  by dunkelschwamm | December 4, 2021 | 1092 characters      We didn't play this on PVP, so we mostly just checked out what the map's layout was. As a DM map, it seems to have some good killzones, lots of flow between rooms, some big arenas with complicated pathways, but also some weird obvious places to camp and such. I can't say how well it works out though in practice, because we did not have PVP enabled.      The mapping itself ranges from decent brushwork and interesting atmospheres to stubby walls with repeating memes scrawled across them. Really, some of this is pretty nifty looking but most of it looks like whatever the geocities equival

Hamsters - Dunkelschwamm

Image
Hamsters is a classic map made for Counter-Strike 1.6 by the legendary mapper, Nipper. The whole map is a hamster habitat floating in space. The walls are transparent making enemy movement obvious. It's a really good map for Counter-Strike 1.6. SCMapDB page Author: Nipper Date of final release: 2016 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Hamsters (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | November 28, 2021 | 1120 characters      Hamsters is a classic Nipper Counter-Strike map. This port is faithful in its port of that map and changes nothing, making it little more than a hangout map. While crawling around in tubes does have a McDonald's playplace feel to it and the spinning wheels are very fun, this port has pretty limited options for Sven players.      If you have a hangout server, I think you should probably stick to maps made specifically for hangout servers and maybe leave this one off the rotation. I can't imagine players finding more than 5 minutes of novelty out

But I expected a few enemies or some sort of additions or upgrades for Sven. Nope, this is the map from Counter-Strike in Sven. That's it.      I guess it would be a good PVP map, but this is Sven CO-OP, I don't think I've ever actually played PVP. Pros: Classic Nipper map from 1.6 Great for PVP Cons: It's ported to Sven but has nothing added for Sven gameplay nobody plays PVP Novelty of being a hamster falls off immediately, without PVP the

Halloween Cemetery - Dunkelschwamm

Image
Halloween Cemetery is just one in a multitude of Halloween and horror themed maps by the author. This particular map is one of the more straightforward ones with a strong start but is hampered by some poor design choices near the end. SCMapDB page Author: GreenTea MiaoMiaoLe Date of final release: 2013 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Halloween Cemetery (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | November 28, 2021 | 3102 characters      Halloween Cemetery is a map that's very fun on the outside but bitter on the inside, like finding a razor in your candy on Halloween night. It has a very goofy, lighthearted tone supported by a brightly colored, smiley-faced Gonome named "Good Guy :>" who can aide the player in combat. The lighthearted feel is also helped with some cartoony ghost buttons, some tongue-in-cheek humor throughout, and some bright neon-lit thresholds separating the sections of the map.      The enemies, conversely, are your standard, overused Afrai

Halloween Blackwoods - Dunkelschwamm

Image
Halloween blackwoods is one of a few maps made by a Chinese mapper known as GreenTea MiaoMiaoLe. Due to language and regional barriers that's really all I know of the mapper. This individual has made no less than four Halloween maps along with two non-Halloween but still horror-themed maps. This particular one is unfinished and it shows. SCMapDB page   Author: GreenTea MiaoMiaoLe Date of final release: 2013 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Halloween Blackwoods (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | November 27, 2021 | 1548 characters      I get the impression that this is a map that was rushed out the door in time for Halloween. I get the appeal of making an enemy an invisible, borderline-unkillable monster that you just have to maneuver around is. Ever since the original Alone in the Dark I think people had an understanding that frustrating situations where power is stripped from you are scary, and thus make for interesting horror games. An invisible enemy takes a
