Adam's Puzzles - Dunkelschwamm

Image
There aren't really any puzzles in this map. The map is all about answering trivia questions. Each room has at least four paths to go and only the one labelled with the answer will allow the player through unharmed. SCMapDB page Author: Adambean Date of final release: 2009 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Adam's Puzzles (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | January 29, 2022 | 4345 characters      Adam's Puzzles is a cute high-concept server map, where the concept is multiple choice questions. Room after room, players are treated to an interesting vignette setting and a multiple choice question. By choosing one of the doors, you seal your fate- you either chose correctly and continue to the next question, or you chose incorrectly and fall into a certain death trap. It's very straight-forward in its concept. For winning, players are treated to a lounge area with security cameras for watching other players struggle with answers, a swimming pool, a pornog

This map is that concept, but instead of randomly picking a path there are questions the players must answer. The map is called Adam's Puzzles, but its really just Adam's quiz.      Most of the questions could be solved by a quick google, the last question was a large math problem that both my teammate and I agree the correct answer in the map has a typo that makes it incorrect. There was also a q

Persia - Dunkelschwamm

Persia is a walkthrough map set in a Middle Eastern city with tons of snipers around. There are a lot of enemies on rooftops and hiding around corners making progression tough and tense. SCMapDB page Author: Skacky Date of final release: 2008 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Persia (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | January 23, 2022 | 4972 characters      Persia has been a Sven Co-op staple going on almost 15 years as of writing this. Does it hold up?      The first thing that you'll notice about Persia is that it's a striking map. There's a very specific theme and atmosphere that is set up early in the map and really manages to maintain until the very end. Along the way there's lots of implied scale, subtle details which enrich the environment without drawing attention, seamless flow from indoor to outdoor scenes, shocking verticality, and some very fun set pieces which do unexpected things with the theme. The textures are all very evocative and t

There are no new spawn points so all the good parts of the map are interrupted on death with the same platforming sequence again and again.     The map is supposed to look middle eastern and it totally does. I feel like in some maps set in the middle east it always looks like a warzone but this map felt more like Prince of Persia. The buildings were large and imposing with those fun stylized windows like you see in Aladdin. There was a really nicely made tank in the beginning and lots of sandbags, but I never felt like I was in a warzone, mor

Activist - Dunkelschwamm

In this map players take on the role of activists and attempt to free animals from being experimented on. One of the objectives states "DON'T release a deadly plague" but you can ignore that since it's required to complete the map. SCMapDB page Author: Frel Date of final release: 2008 Maps in package: 3 Map review of Activist (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | January 21, 2022 | 4491 characters      Activist is a very well made action mapset by Frel. It features a story which works as a very loose context for what's happening, but it isn't really necessary for the full enjoyment of the map. That is because the map itself is very straight-forward.      Fight your way through a biogenetics(?) laboratory in order to free the animals- and then kill the animals! Play as the worst animal rights activist ecoterrorists on the face of the planet as you murder your way into the complex, release biotoxins, fight and kill the very mutated animals you

One of the objectives is to NOT release a deadly plague. From the very beginning I suspected that we had to unleash a biohazardous threat as a matter of course to complete the map.      The map starts players off in a well stocked armory with shotgun, uzi, and mp5 plus bullets and shells. Right from the get go it has plenty of ammo to start players off with and there are resupply points periodically throughout the map. Players are never given more weapons, but HEV and ammo are given generously. At least the amo

Acopz - Dunkelschwamm

Acopz is a simple two map series where players must destroy a generator that powers the Xen invasion and then kill a boss in the second map.  SCMapDB page Author: matman Date of final release: 2008 Maps in package: 2 Map review of Acopz (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | January 16, 2022 | 2233 characters      Acopz is a couple of little maps which feel like fun little beginner maps. You can tell there's a lot of budding ideas and concepts under the surface, but the maps are ultimately unambitious and timid in execution.      For the most part you simply move through lazily lit, blocky rooms with an overabundance of ammo and supplies. Rooms often feel bizarrely proportioned, with an oddly claustrophobic vibe to some of them.      The first map features a moment of unnecessary backtracking which ultimately turns out to just be a straight march back to spawn, then through a couple rooms, right into the end of the map. The second map ends fairly abruptly after a

There are no major problems in the map design except maybe some destructible objects necessary for progression not being obvious enough.      Players spawn in a room filled with weapons and ammo, and with double health and HEV chargers on the wall. It felt great starting the map with 100 HEV and full ammo.      The map design is rudimentary and simple. The rooms were bland and uninteresting. The enemies were placed in weird ways. The first combat in the map has players going down a ladder and pressing a button to open a door. On the other side of the door are soldiers shooting at zombies who are

If it ever updates and finishes I'll happily revisit it and update my review.      RNG is a name in Sven Co-op mapping which can be closely associated with thick, grimy, moody atmospheres and high-caliber walkthrough progression. Each of RNG's maps has distinct personality that sets it apart from other maps, and Septic Morass is no different. From head to toe the map is dressed up in expert brush and model work with intense colored lighting whi

101 Grunts - Dunkelschwamm

101 Grunts is a very early and simple map with long hallways full of human grunts. You fight a total of 101 enemies, hence the name. The set suffers from a lack of ammo early on, though playing with large groups may mitigate this. Beyond this, the set delivers on a linear succession of corridors and rooms full of grunts to engage in deadly combat. By the end I found my bloodlust satiated, but fail to remember many memorable moments upon reflection.

But I was surprised that it didn't,     The gameplay is real simple, run forward in long hallways and kill the HECU grunts. The map description says it all, there are 101 enemies to kill and the game ends when you kill them all.      I could complain that the levels are bland, nondescript hallways with little to no decoration, but its hard when the map
