Chillplace v2 - GrandmasterJ

The only interactive feature of this map seems to be a big boombox that plays many sounds. The rest of the map is a tiny room that looks very interesting, the map is a lobby so there isn't all that much to do.

Map review of Chillplace v2

This map is supposed to be a waiting room between maps, and I think it accomplishes that. The map is entertaining enough for about five minutes but then it gets old.

The map itself is a really fantastic looking grassy green hill with a big well detailed tree in the middle. The hill slopes down rather sharply and ends in a black abyss, rock cliff walls surround us on the other side of the abyss. We can't drop down because there is an invisible wall keeping us on top of the hill. There are a lot of invisible walls, they become problematic around the tree's roots and it can be hard to jump on the roots when the solid parts are invisible and don't line up exactly. Both my teammate and I were able to look into the tree at the same time from different angles, the invisible walls work well on to keep us on top of the hill but the make the tree a mess.

There was a weird looking dude lounging on a rock, don't know what that is about. I noted a copy of him standing up in the ground below (I was noclipping) but I don't know how to trigger that.

I think the main attraction has to be the big boombox with a ton of buttons on it. The buttons change the song playing, my teammate messed with it more than me but it seems to have a wide range of stuff we can do. Beyond that boombox there is very little interactivity, we don't even get weapons.

The map is ok for a quick intermission. The whole area provides about five minutes of interest, enough time for another map to be picked and switched to. But beyond that there is nothing much here. Exploration ends quickly as the map is tiny and can get annoying when trying to navigate the tree roots. Maybe that guy in the ground is a secret, but I don't know.

Pros:

  • Really nice looking map
  • cool boombox
  • I appreciate the invisible walls keeping me off the hill's sharp downward slope

Cons:

  • not much to do
  • the invisible walls around the tree roots make thing overly complicated and don't really fix anything

Score: 6 / 10
