Chillplace v2 - Dunkelschwamm

The only interactive feature of this map seems to be a big boombox that plays many sounds. The rest of the map is a tiny room that looks very interesting, the map is a lobby so there isn't all that much to do.

    Chillplace V2! If there's a Chillplace V1, I don't know about it!

This map is a chill lobby area with an island of blue grass and a big mystical tree with light shining from within. There's a lot of fun effects on display, like liberal use of sprites to create fun glowing particles and flowers, or additive gradient brushes to create the light burst from within the tree. There's a custom model of a horrible, unchill mothman with a gaping lower jaw laying beneath the tree, likely dreaming of mercifully departing its hideous existence. A stereo plays lots of funky tunes!

There is very little to do on this map other than chill, so if you wanna chill and listen to music this map will have you covered. The cliff is unescapable, and despite noclipping showing another standing mothman abomination within the island, I cannot find any secrets which the players can access to make it appear. There are no weapons, and the player only has medkits which have no practical use.

Overall, it's a very pretty map! If you want to hang out on a very pretty map with friends with 16 different songs to listen to, this is a great place to do it! In fact, it reminds me of a lot of VR Chat worlds these days, so I deeply understand the motivations behind such lobby maps.

Pros:

  • Very chill environment that is beautifully rendered
  • 16 songs to choose from. That's a full set and then some
  • Lots of tricks coming together for a single fun scene

Cons:

  • The interactivity is limited enough that even for a hangout lobby it feels a bit
  • Small moveable area which only really invites players to run in circles, grind against the invisible walls, and clip into the tree trunk just enough to see inside of it

Score: 7 / 10
