Holodeck - Dunkelschwamm


    Welcome to the Holodeck, a map where players can run around an arena while other players spawn monsters in. I'm guessing it's based off the holodeck in Star Trek but I don't remember the that show ever making the holodeck look like this.

    Holodeck is, if I'm following correctly, a follow-up update to Biodome (http://scmapdb.wikidot.com/map:biodome) by the same author. To recap, that is to say, Holodeck is a sandbox map for Sven Co-op, wherein an arena comprised of a flat square area adored with turret towers with bridges between them set the stage for players to toy with the tools of Sven Co-op. I wrote a brief review of biodome which you can see on its page on this site. I recommend looking into that and coming back here to find out how this map differs.

    Not by a whole lot. There seemed to be more buttons which spawned more NPCs (notably gonomes, race x, baby headcrabs). There was also better lighting.

    One massive boon is that players get to spawn equipped with crowbars, wrenches, and medkits. Using wrenches when you don't have any other weapons yet is a great way to survive most major attacks. The weapons spawned are also better, including sniper rifles.

    A button I noticed here but not in biodome was a button that covers the map in turrets, which can then be activated separately. I thought this was really cool and fun, even if it was ridiculous and lagged on my lan connection.

    Overall, not a whole lot is changed, but it's all for the better. I think if you liked biodome, this is the superior version of it all together. If you haven't played biodome, but think a sandbox map similar to stadium where you can spawn infinite enemies to fight sounds fun, you'll find this very fun.

Pros:

  • Better weapons than biodome
  • Funny turret thing
  • Better lighting makes the map look better

Cons:

  • The map is still kinda dull looking
  • All of the cons of the biodome still apply here, with the exception of bad arsenal

What is this place and why should I care?

Welcome friends, to Sven Co-op map reviews.     My name is GrandmasterJ and my colleague and other reviewer who is not writing this post is Dunkelschwamm.  This blog exists purely because we have zero faith that Wikidot will exist much longer and want a place to host our reviews. Zombie Squad - Dunkelschwamm

       Suit up squad, it's time to go fight human grunts that this map calls zombies. This map is a horde map taking place in a burned out urban block, supposedly there are points to capture but I didn't see any.
