Annihilation - Dunkelschwamm
Annihilation is a heavy word, it's one of those words where if used as a name it needs to really illustrate the destructive power within. This map is forgettable walkthrough map through rough rooms and halls.

Annihilation is a short action-packed map that burns bright and burns fast.
Players escort a bunch of OpFor marines into an arena where they are ambushed by pitdrones which spawn (maybe endlessly?) from two pipes in a room which opens rather explosively (I was killed by the door falling off its hinges). The room is an ambush, and soon you're fighting gonomes attacking from a hole in the wall as well. If you advance on their position, a wall breaks down and a baby garg comes out to fight. Eventually one of us found the exit in a hole in the ground.
At some point you're supposed to secure a lab. On viewing the map for a second time we see that there is a lab area. Liberating the lab doesn't seem to factor into whether the map is winnable.
The moment when this map's action is actually popping off is really frantic and fun. Basically as soon as the action dies down for a moment the map meanders to its finish.
It's mapped decently well, I suppose. The environment is fairly nonevocative- concrete walls and clear blue skies ahead don't tell a clear image of where we are meant to be.
Overall, I'd consider this map pretty meh. If you're looking for something action-packed or really brief filler in a server rotation of action maps, this would be a fine tiny distraction. It's lightweight is over as soon as it stops being interesting for even a second.
Pros:
- What action is there is very good and frantic
- Having a bunch of grunts and grenades is a lot of fun
- Good choice of enemies
Cons:
- The map is like a minute long
- Super unclear progression
- One of the map objectives is unclear and possibly optional?
- No great idea of what the environment is supposed to be.
Score: 6.5 / 10
