Lift Lifters 50 50 Xsus - GrandmasterJ

This map is all about elevators. Get it? Lift Lifters? Elevators? I think the 50 50 refers to the authors, RNG and Robootto, each creating half of the map. I'm not sure what Xsus means.

This is easily the best map I've played made by Robootto so far, probably because RNG, a generally beloved mapper, is a co-author. When I play maps made by Robootto usually I am trying to figure out if the map is trolling me. This map gave me no such feeling.

The map is about elevators. The map name, lift lifters, makes a lot of sense when you realize this, The elevators are usually simple but big with lots of variation on the design. Combat is minimal, there is a gargantua serving as a sort of boss fight about halfway through. Most of the combat is scattered skirmishes with various enemies. The rest of the level design is very minimal with all the detail being put into the elevators.

I will say, I don't usually like elevators in Sven Co-op. It happens all too often that when the elevator stops I get stuck in the floor and when coming from spawn back to where you die (the map was easy, my teammate and I only died when we both jumped down an elevator shaft in the start of the map) you have to call and wait for the elevator to come back down. Neither of these things were problems in this map, elevators moved at a good pace, aren't absurdly long like a lot of Robootto's other maps, and reset automatically and are activated with a simple and clear button. I also didn't get stuck in the floor once, which was probably a coincidence and nothing the authors did, but I'll still give them credit for it.

At the end of the map there is a level transition to the middle of Robootto's Normall series for some reason. There is also a nonfunctional door labelled 'service elevator' in the final room. I assumed it was to get back to the start of the map, but I noclipped into it and there was nothing.

If you like elevators, this is your map. The actual gameplay was pretty light with only a smattering of enemies and one linear path to walk with no side rooms. As far as elevator showcases go, it was decent, but as far as walkthrough maps go, it was a little boring.

Pros:

  • The elevators worked well
  • The elevator designs were varied and interesting

Cons:

  • Not much to do in the map except elevators
  • The ending room was nonfunctional, the map transition goes to the middle of a map series

Score: 4 / 10
