Biglolly is a map that looks really good. The textures are nice, the level design is interesting, and the candyland concept is really fun. The map series may consist of 5 maps but each one is so short the whole thing just flies by. Enemies are zombies reskinned to be gingerbread men, headcrabs reskinned to be red gummy bears, and cockroaches reskinned to be tiny sour patch kids. There are also some nice butterflies flying around the maps and players can pick up snarks which are green gummy bears. The crowbar was a lollipop and the pistol was a banana, there were also grenades near the end that were pop rocks attached to soda. This series even has an introductory cutscene with a fairytale book opening up and a high pitched voice reading off the page plus an ending cutscene of a floating candy island with more narration. The map ends rather abruptly and completely after the end cutscene. When I say 'completely' I mean the server shut down, I was kicked to the desktop instead of changing map to one of the defaults.
The map was fun. It was short but very sweet (pun intended). The combat was a bit lacking and there was a lot of platforming I didn't like but in the grand scheme of things, neither of those things were huge problems. The map is just really fun to be in and experience.
Pros:
- Fantastic visual style
- interesting level design, the platforming sections weren't terrible
- lots of fun model replacements and custom sounds
- I liked the intro and outro cutscenes
Cons:
- I don't like the way the map ends the whole server, this is a problem for dedicated servers
- I'm just not that big a fan of platforming
Score: 8 / 10
