What is this place and why should I care?

Welcome friends, to Sven Co-op map reviews.

My name is GrandmasterJ and my colleague and other reviewer who is not writing this post is Dunkelschwamm. This blog exists purely because we have zero faith that Wikidot will exist much longer and want a place to host our reviews. All maps are hosted over at the Sven Co-op Map Database, which you should already know about. It is pretty much the only place dedicated solely to hosting the maps for this wonderful mod. All our reviews are written there first and copied over to here for preservation.

If you don't know what Sven Co-op is and/or haven't been to the database take a moment to familiarize yourself. You can download Sven Co-op via Steam right here by clicking this text. You can visit the map database by clicking on this text. But if you are already familiar with those two things and are looking to avoid garbage maps in favor of the best then you have come to the right place.

Dunkel and I have a combined 400 years of game development experience under our belts. Well, the vast majority of that experience comes from Dunkel and may be exaggerated ever so slightly. But rest assured, we are both experts at playing games and enjoying them. We are like the Roger and Ebert of reviewing Sven Maps, we have endeavored to use our expertise to judge every single Sven map ever created and give our opinions on them. As of writing this paragraph there are 1423 maps on the database and some of those maps are long multi-map campaigns. We have our work cut out for us.

There is one thing that should be mentioned, the map database has a terrible and broken search function due to built in limitations stemming from Wikidot. Finding a specific map on the database is not easy. I thought since I'm going to make a blog post for every single Sven map anyway I might as well include direct links to the database page for each map. Maybe once we are done reviewing them all this blog can serve a secondary purpose as an external search function. Well, considering that its been around four months since we started and we have reviewed around 105 maps it'll take us about four and a half years to finish reviewing every single map. This is not even accounting for new maps added along the way. So until then our search function won't cover the entire breadth of the database.

That's pretty much it, this place is just for map reviews that you can find over at the database. Maybe in four to five years it can be used as a replacement for the broken Wikidot search. Maybe in four to five years Wikidot will be dead and our reviews will be hosted on a stable platform, making this blog completely obsolete. Until then, enjoy our reviews, they are written with love.
