Multifield Scyberscazer - Dunkelschwamm

The picture for this map looks awesome. It is apparently the sequel to another map, I've played that map and it feels like a beta of this map. I don't know what the title has to do with the things in the map. Travel through loosely connected obstacle courses of bullet sponge enemies and confusing progression. The map begins with four tall staircases which are utter bullshit, but thankfully a nearby teleporter allows the player to bypass this needlessly bullshit part of the map.      Unlike most maps

There is a portal that teleports you to the top of the stairs, then you climb all the way down a ladder to below the very tall awful stairs. The ladder is very long.      At the bottom is a terrible looking hallway and a room with a great selection of weapons and ammo. I have to say, actually getting a generous supply dump is a huge boon for

Sewer Systematic: Toxicidia Sektor 516 - Dunkelschwamm

This map advertises being a sewer level where players have to rescue scientists in the sewer. The architecture doesn't really evoke a sewer feeling but it looks great anyway. It's also the name of an incredible mapset by RNG, a mapper whose content never fails to exude personality and quality. The map follows through a moody, atmospheric rustpunk world of grimy corridors into battles with gonomes, giant vortigaunts, and gargantuas. The mood is aided along the way with skillful brushwork and custom sounds.      The map is mostly broken up into chambers and corridors full of monsters who must be wiped out before the players can press corresponding buttons (requiring a team play aspect) to open the next door

I don't think I ever felt like I was in a sewer, although that is probably for the best.      This map series, like most of RNG's work, has some very interesting and impressive architecture, unique looking rooms, and tons of detail. The style and layout is heavily reminiscent of a fever dream, there was one part where a hallway ended with a window looking into a room full of scientists. There is a door behind them that opens up to reveal a turret that mows them all down. The turret then shatters the glass and the way forward

I never played the original mod so I can't comment on how faithful it is to the original, but its amazing. The hub level is really nice, the fact that there are multiple versions of maps for difficu
