Chillplace v1337 is a reconfiguration of the ideas in Chillplace v2 for a more streamlined presentation. Gone is the island with the tiny buttons on a boombox, and here now is the day of a bizarre structure which controls music, and beautiful mountain scenery. Some nicely utilized models for mountains give the impression of displacement.
For those unaware, Chillplace is a hangout map where players can vibe to music. Kinda like a virtual club. To that end, I think Chillplace offers a decently sized venue with enough of a fun vibe to hang out with friends. I also think the invisible walls make moving around a little awkward and uncomfortable, which detracts from that. I understand maneuvering models in goldsrc is a pain.
Much like Chillplace v2, there's a very VRChat vibe to this, though something about the models and how they are used here, as well as the big structure designed only to house big funny music buttons, gives a more distinct SecondLife feel to this one.
Also much like Chillplace v2, there's a horrible no-jaw monster man chilling to the vibes with his back on the ground. So, if you're down to hang out with that, big boon here.
Overall, I think this is an effective hangout area. If you want to hang out with your friends in an area like this, go for it.
Pros:
- Nice chill mountain forest vibes
- Huge selection of music buttons in the music button building
- Nice to see a map that differentiates itself with heavy use of modeled terrain
- The map source files have been supplied, so people can make their own boombox hangout world servers
Cons:
- As is inherent with many hangout maps, there is little to actually do
- The invisible walls around the models are a pain to navigate sometimes
- Similar to the above con, barriers aren't the clearest
- The wackier modeled terrain looks pretty bad up close
Score: 6.6 / 10
