More rage in more map. This iteration of the community made ragemaps once again has an incredible diversity of gameplay, architecture, sounds, themes, and everything else. I would even say its got a bit more rage than the original too. So much stuff that it comes in two maps instead of the original's one.

This map is much like the other ragemaps, nearly every room is a complete departure from whatever the last room was doing. I particularly liked the puzzle room where four types of colored zombies came at the players and we had to kill certain colors of zombies to get a cube through a maze. It was tiny bit tedious but it was such a novel idea that I've never seen before. The last two parts of the second map, the very end of the series, is fantastic. I won't get too deep into details but the space ship launch was amazing and the final fight with the scissor payload was hilarious.

I do think this map has a bit more rage than the original because it focuses a lot more on respawning enemies. Both the space ship launch and the final battle have players facing off against swarms of respawning enemies. There was one particular spot that I would say was the most rage inducing part of the map, this was the area where we had to deal with Tor trapped in a cage. My teammate grasped the puzzle immediately, we had to get hit by Tor's anti-gravity attack so we can access switches up by the ceiling to eventually kill Tor and open a door. That was my least favorite part of the map. There was another puzzle where we had our weapons stripped and then we had to push chairs onto squares. It was busy work, then when we finished it triggered combat and we had our weapons stripped!

My teammate and I got through the first ragemap with a few hiccups but overall very smoothly. This map set has an even less clear path of progression. It was difficult to know which buttons we still had to press on the garg escape. There was a vent that was behind a fence and it turned out we just break the fence even though there was nothing to indicate it. In fact sometimes the map feels very janky. There was one part where we had to somehow make it over a fence of G-men to the other side. There was an invisible wall we had to turn off. The whole execution just seemed off.

There were really only two parts of the series that made me think we had to cheat to get through, I already mentioned Tor in a cage, that was pretty bad. But there was a part before that where we had to lead a scientist through a series of dark halls filled with snarks. We spent so much time here, I was starting to think it was impossible. After killing the scientist three times a message popped up saying we were failures and the next scientist would have 5000 health. This was a huge help and we still barely made it. Once a scientist gets a whiff of danger they are startled like a horse, they start galloping everywhere and won't listen to reason. My teammate got him where he needed to be, I don't know how he did it.

As with the original, this map also has a lot of updating spawn points. They even all work properly! Unfortunately the spawn points do not keep up with the weapons and HEV some other spawn points have. The map is not very forthcoming with new weapons and features multiple weapon strippers.

There is a lot of map here and I'm not going into too much detail. This is because there is just so much to see and do. The map has high points and low points, I think the high points are great and the low points are annoying. But overall it's a great experience. There is such a variety that even if an area is annoying the next area usually makes up for it. The caged Tor section gets a special shout out for being terrible and the space shuttle launch and final battle get a shout out for being amazing. There was also a penis and it was a thousand times better than the penis in the original ragemap.

Pros:

  • a diverse map with many different gameplay elements and art directions
  • constantly updating spawn point
  • The space shuttle launch in the second map is great
  • The final battle is great
  • real good penis in this map

Cons:

  • The part with Tor in the cage is so bad I almost cheated to get past him
  • players lose weapons constantly from updating checkpoints and weapon strippers don't help
  • there is an underlaying feel of jankiness from a lot of the map
  • The snark room I had to escort a scientist through sucked
Score: 7.5 / 10
