Barney Beach - GrandmasterJ
This small slice of map is a recreation of the World War 2 beach landings at Normandy. It was converted from the 'War in Europe' and renamed to 'Barney Beach' for some reason, there are no Barneys here at all.

This is a conversion of a World War II map, specifically the Normandy beach landings, I don't know why it is called Barney Beach since there are no Barneys in the map. Are players supposed to be the Barneys? I have questions.
Players spawn in landing boats, the water here is really choppy, it has been put together in chunks and each block's waves don't match up with the waves of the adjacent blocks, it just looks incredibly bad. Players run out of the boats and through some very rough hills dodging random mortar fire, barbed wire fences, and hedgehogs to reach the far end of the map, the enemy base, where human grunts are endlessly spawning in.
There is no map end, and the grunts don't stop coming, so I don't know what the goal of this map is. What I can say is that if players manage to make it through the random mortar fire and overwhelm the respawning enemies (with no armor and our best weapon being the crossbow with explosive bolts) then we can explore a sparse military base with a secret in the top floor of the leftmost building.
It's a fun time waster, my teammate and I had a blast blowing soldiers to bits with well placed no-scoped crossbow bolts. With only two people we had to cheat to see what the enemy base looked like, we both found the secret legitimately but my teammate noclipped around later and found a secret crossbow within the secret room, we start with crossbows, what is this for? I found the concept of fighting infinitely respawning enemies a bit tired, but I did enjoy the change of scenery, unique weapon choices, and the little secret at the end. The random mortar fire grew very tiresome very quickly however.
Pros:
- I think the choice of making the crossbow a main weapon was fantastic
- fun secret in the enemy base
Cons:
- The water looked horrendous, why didn't the author just make one big block?
- I did not like the random mortar fire
- no armor, we die far too easily
Score: 5.5 / 10
