Mega Monster Massacre - GrandmasterJ

Image
Mega Monster Massacre is a monster hunt type of map where the monsters have weird custom models and weird names. This map was one of, if not the, first map to implement the gameplay of having a large wide open area and only a handful of high-powered monsters. SCMapDB page Author: DeathBog Date of final release: 2008 Maps in package: 1 Map review of Mega Monster Massacre (originally posted on SCMapDB) by GrandmasterJ | February 19, 2022 | 3639 characters      This is a map that I played a long time ago and I remember not liking it. I'm pleasantly surprised to say this impression is completely wrong and I had a great time playing it again.      The goal of the map is simple, kill monsters. Areas are blocked off and as monsters are killed the areas open up. The monsters are weird looking and have a ton of health while also dealing a ton of damage. If you get hit once you will explode. Monsters are usually very fast too, so a lot of the time the best option is to run backwards sh

Galleon - Dunkelschwamm

Galleon is a converted Counter-Strike map with enemies and some weapons scattered around. There are quite a few Counter-Strike map conversions but it is so nice to see one that's not meant for PVP. The scripted weapons act much like Counter-Strike weapons and include such hits as: the Mac-10, the AK-47, the Famas, the Fiveseven, the Deagle, the Knife, the P90, and some wonky-ass grenades. The enemies compose mostly of BlackOps snipers, HECU grunts, Heavy Weapons guys, assassins, robogrunts, Otises, and Barnies.      The map begins with the players on the other side of some harbor buildi

Unlike other conversions of CS maps this one actually has enemies and is modified for cooperative play. There are around 100 enemies in the map and players must hunt them all down.      The map is expansive with plenty to see. Some of the architecture looks bad, like the staircases. Some of the hallways are really narrow with lots of twists and turns. In a competitive map these features would add to the challenge but in Sven the map gets more annoying the more ti

Mechanized Death: Army of None - Dunkelschwamm

This map looks awesome. I mean look at that screenshot, it's a giant mech with enormous guns stomping all around and the player has a rocket launcher. There are some other things in the map set but just look at that mech. From what I can gather from the reading, it's a conversion of a separate mod by one Jed Kirchner. I researched a bit further to learn about what this port does different from Mechanized Death: Army of None. I'll make notes throughout the review about this, but first and foremost this is a review of the Sven Co-op port of Mechanized Death: Army of None as its own experience as a Sven Co-op ma

There are two maps in this set, and only one contains a giant mech, so it was a little bit of a letdown.      The first map is forgettable and I question why it was there at all. Players first have to climb a shelf right in the beginning and I had a lot of trouble with it. The goemetry was all weird, there were two shelves and one didn't seem to want to let

In Prison 2 - Dunkelschwamm

You may notice there is no 'In Prison 1' on the Sven Co-op map database. The first and third map in this series is included separately in Robootto's Big Map Pack. Both of these maps are different, and worse, versions of this map. SCMapDB page Author: Robootto Date of final release: 2001 Maps in package: 1 Map review of In Prison 2 (originally posted on SCMapDB) by dunkelschwamm | January 15, 2021 | 3169 characters      Robootto strikes again. If you're familiar with Robootto, you know that means we're going to be groaning!      In Prison is a map made out of inconveniences glues together by contempt. At multiple points in this map I felt like Robootto was making a fool of me by my somehow deciding to continue playing this may through.      The first trial of patience and woe is the prison cell within which the players begin this map. It's a standard cell lazily blocked out to house furniture reminiscent of a small studio apartment, complete with sinks and

The player must spend an eternity wailing on the counter in order to break it and then go through the vent to freedom. There are Barneys here but they do nothing. It's also important to mention that the one source of snarks here in the spawn are the only weapons present on the map and if you want more snarks you're out of luck.      Outside there is a courtyard, ther

Take on the role of guarding the Space Viking spaceship as it is attacked by alien pirates seeking the precious cargo.      One thing that stands out about Space Viking to me is its resemblance to a series like Marathon or Halo, with the player beginning in a spaceship and then forcing back an alien invading force throughout the ship, culminating in chasing their attacking force back to the

There is a large view screen where the player can see a nicely done warp-speed effect. As soon as I stepped out of the spawn room I had my pants charmed off. I don't expect story in my Sven maps other than some paragraph in the MotD, so it stands out even more when it is done during play and it was done really, really well.      The ship is then boarded b
